Berlin, Alabama

Berlin is an unincorporated community in Cullman County, Alabama, United States. It is located roughly five miles east of the city of Cullman. The center of Berlin is considered to be at the intersection of U.S. Route 278 and Cullman County Road 747 at Walker's Corner. The Berlin Community Center is located on U.S. Route 278, just west of the crossroads.

History

The community was originally known as Hobart, possibly named after Garrett Hobart, a New Jersey legislator who would eventually become vice-president under William McKinley. A post office was established in 1895, but it was closed in 1903. The name was changed around 1914 to honor the capital of Germany, the former homeland of many of the town's residents. The new name was suggested by J.S. Schultz. ^[1]
